What’s Your Passion?

#WeAllCan20170210_113103  This post is going to be a little different compared to my other ones as I want to talk about something that is close to my heart and keeps me going every single day. To see the article on my college webpage about my dance journey, written by Marlen Mursuli, go  to http://news.stu.edu/2017/02/jigging-to-beat.html.

img_5919   From the time I was 2 1/2 all I can remember was going to dance class. I attended a dance studio in Cooper City, Florida named Dance Works Company. There, I began my dance career and also found my passion. Two years later, at the age of 4, I had the opportunity to try a new type of dance, Irish Step Dancing. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I jumped at the opportunity to try it though, as my Nana (great-grandmother) also was an Irish Step Dancer, and I just loved anything that had to do with dance! Little did I know that I would go through struggles, tribulations, receive many opportunities and blessings from participating in something I loved. I added a new found passion to my life.

To this day, I am still competing in Irish Dance and personally feel that these past few years have been a huge success and push for me. I attend the Breffni Academy of Irish Step Dance in North Miami, Florida. This academy isn’t just a dance school, but a second home…a family. The people I have met here, my teachers, as well as all the hope and support I receive, is a good kind of overwhelming. Being here has pushed me to be a better dancer and to seek new connections. My parents, family and friends have been nothing but supportive and have helped me to achieve what I thought was impossible.

In life, there are always going to be what some people call “haters”, or those who want to see you fail. We all are going to have those moments where we may fIMG_5560.JPGeel like failures or as if anything we do isn’t good enough. In order to be your best and succeed at what you really want, you have to ignore all those comments and people; you need to keep pushing through! You may have a down day, but it’s how you rise to the occasion that will prove who you truly are inside and show what it is you really want. You don’t have to be the best, you just have to be better than you were the day before.

Enjoy life to the fullest, find your passion, and never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. The second they do, go prove them wrong! You will soon show everyone, including yourself, that you are having “One of those days” where you feel blessed, accomplished, and loved. This is how you will know that you are doing what is right for you and that you have truly made it. Cherish the little moments, the little accomplishments, and always appreciate your friends and family; your heart will thank you.

I am a huuuuuge fan of ballet.
The movements, the music, the discipline, the productions, the mythos; everything about ballet leaves me enraptured.
Be that as it may, I have room in my heart for other genres of dance and I intend to look up Irish step dance when I get the opportunity.

Also, thank you for the second portion of this post. On one of those days, in the thick of the storm, I really do need to just keep pushing through.

That is so awesome to hear that you love ballet! I have been taking ballet since I was 2 1’2 as I stated and everything you said is correct; the beauty, the discipline it requires…it’s all so captivating.
Irish dance is very different from ballet, but still has a sense of beauty to it. I think it would be interesting for you to look into. To really get the good information and videos Michael Flatley would be there person you would want to look up!
The thick of the storm will always come, but as you pointed out, you just have to keep pushing through until you make it out. It may be hard and tiring, but never impossible.

I love your passion and attitude toward life. It is no possible to make everyone agree or like us. We don’t need to care those negative comments that affect our life. Also like how you said we just need to be better than the one day before. The biggest enemy for us is ourselves.

      Thank you so much Yuging!
I have been through a lot of troubles and heartache in my short 22 years and I have learned that in order to be happy, you must have a positive outlook on life, yourself, and those who you want to be a part of your life. We do need to try our best each and every day if we want to succeed at all we do and truly be happy within ourselves. Not everyone will always be on our side, and that is ok. It will always be how we handle the situation and the outcome of those scenarios that will determine who we are and who we want to be.

Thank you so much Steph! This really does mean a lot to mea!
Life is something I have chosen to not take for granted. I am who I am and I know sometimes it may seem strange to others, but it’s me! If I don’t appreciate myself, then how can I expect others to? If they don’t like my personality or what I like, that’s fine. I am not living to satisfy anyone else except for myself and those who want to be a part of my life. Also, I always want to be an example and show love to those who need it. This is part of the reason of why I dance. Whenever I dance it not only makes me happy, but those who watch me. It’s such an honor being able to do something I love and make others smile. I talk about my passion in this manner because it’s who I am and no one will ever be able to take that away from me.

This post was amazing. I, too, dance and I know that feeling of doing because you love it and the joy that it makes you feel. I feel your passion through your words and know that the passion shows through your dance moves as well. Continue to do what makes you happy and let those”haters” be haters. They going to talk regardless, why not give them something to talk about.

I didn’t know you dance! This is so awesome! We truly do learn something new every day.
The haters truly are gonna hate; it took me a long time to understand that in its fullness and not care about them. I’ve always stood up for what I believe in but it wasn’t until I got to college that I fully began to understand the meaning behind who I fully wanted to be and who I want to become. Dance is something I am passionate about regardless if I am the best or not. I do it because I love it. It takes me to a place where I am free to be me. I bet you know that feeling as well. Embrace it and never lose it.
