GOOD MORNING MY LOVES!

img_5982Today is February 14, 2017, a day that either many people dread or many people are obsessed with, depending on your perspective and outlook on life. Today is Valentine’s Day. It is a day of mushiness, sappiness and love. The history of how Valentine’s Day began is obscure and confusing to many. The tradition was started in the days of the Roman’s and St. Valentine is said to be the perpetrator of all the festivities and activities that go along with the day. There are many different stories about this holiday and it’s patron saint, so I won’t go into the details. I want to talk about how this day can be just as important as other major holidays throughout our yearly calendar.

20170204_204818Try to not have a hardened heart. Everyday should be a day of love, but today is a day to show your kindness and love a little extra onto those who hold a special place in your heart. I have so much to be thankful for in my life; I am so loved and don’t know what I did to deserve that love. I want to go out into the world and show those who may not have someone special and is feeling lonely, that they are loved. Whether you are single, or have a significant other, today is more than just chocolates, candy, flowers, and hearts. It’s about showing the people around you how much you appreciate them and that you do care. So, rather than feeling sorry for yourself or making excuses for having a terrible Valentine’s Day, go tell someone you love them; your mom or dad, your grandma, or a best friend. I promise you that it will not only make them smile, but you will feel good on the inside knowing that you just made someone’s day. 20160523_090619_1464016369978

There’s this song that I absolutely love called “Look Like Love”. It’s about how even when we have a bad day, when we don’t have time for anything it seems, we need to stop and look at all the things and people that help us get through all those hardships and why we are here today.”I want to look like love, be more than just enough, for the hearts that are broken, coming undone. It’s up to you and me, to leave a legacy. If we’re all they ever see…I want to look like love.” ~Britt Nicole

img_4695So, make today “One of those days” where you reflect on what makes you happy and who you want to show your love to just a little extra today! You never know what a smile and a few words can do for a person. Love always unconditionally yourself, your friends and family, and the world!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY img_4587EVERYONE!!!

Thank you for your kind words. Love does come in many forms and can be shown in many ways. We don’t always realize what we have until it’s gone. People think that Valentine’s Day is for lovers, which it is, but I feel it also can be to show those who surround you with love, the love you have for them back.

I agree with you completely about everything. Especially when you mentioned that everyday should be a day of love. Today I surprised the dean from the school of science with Misha cupcakes to show that I care for her because she has brought me many great opportunities. Smiling at someone can really lift their day. There have been times where I was having a bad day and a smile from a stranger changed my whole mood.

      Yasshin,
I think that was so very sweet of you to surprise the dean at the school of science! I myself was once a science major and absolutely loved the dean. Although, being a science major was not for me, I still am grateful to those who helped through my time in the science building. I bet the dean appreciated your cupcakes so much! Smiling is a powerful tool, and I am sure your’s made the dean’s day. Thank you so much for sharing your Valentine’s story with me.

Valentine’s Day is about people other than your significant other. Yes, I’ve spent most Valentine’s days with a girl, but I always get a little something to show appreciation for the women in my family; especially being so close to my mom and g (grandma). It’s not always easy to show love everyday of the year, but this day is the one where we can remember to show appreciation for the ones that we do love! Great post.

Of course it is alright for us to have our significant others. As you said, most of your Valentine’s you have spent with a girl, but it is important to show those other people in our lives that we love, that they are important too. I think it is wonderful that you are close to your mom and grandma and that you showed them appreciation as well on Valentine’s day. All women, no matter what we may say, love being showered with love and appreciation on this special day, and your mom and grandma are no exception. I too am super close to my mother and my grandmother and gave them something special as well. I hope your mom and G are doing well and that they enjoyed their Valentine’s day. With you by their side, I bet it was wonderful! Thank you for your kind words.

    Hello!

This post was beautiful, I am sure it made those who feel a little sour about Valentines day change their mind. I can not agree more that Valentines day should not just be about your significant other but to all those people close to you! For as long as I can remember my mom has been my number one Valentines, even though I have a boyfriend I can not help look forward to sharing the day with my mother and sisters as well! Your pictures are really nice as well, it showed all the special and different relationships you have and how others can find that on the big love day!

      Good morning Abby,
That was one of my main goals when I decided to write this post; helping those who may feel sour, to understand that it just isn’t a “Hallmark Card day”. At least, it doesn’t have to be. Spending Valentine’s with your mom and sisters I think is grand as it is a day where all women want to be spoiled, and you all are close enough to spoil each other! It is great to be able to appreciate and show all the different relationships and types of love that we have in our lives. I hope you all had a great day and that it was shared with lots of love! Thank you for sharing.

Thank you! It is important that we know that we are truly loved and appreciated all around, no matter who it may be. Some people need an extra reminder of that or two sometimes, and there is nothing wrong with that.

That’s right! We are supposed to show love for everyone not just a significant other (no offense lol). People can show love towards family members and not to forget also share love to strangers by making their day happy, so they can also spread love to other people that surrounds them.

Yes! Exactly! This is what I wanted people who read this post to understand. It is wonderful if you have a significant other, but even if you don’t, there are still other ways to be able to celebrate this beautiful day. It is a day that people can show their love just a little extra to all those who have a special place in their hearts. We might as well enjoy the day since it does exist!

You can count me among those who view Valentine’s Day as a Hallmark holiday, but I definitely do understand how important it is to be loving by nature.
I try to model my approach to love after the description coined by the Corinthians.

      JonLuc,
I think it is wonderful that you try to model the Corinthians to show your love. I also understand why you would feel that Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday, but just as I wrote in my post, it doesn’;t need to be. The day is here, no matter what any of us want to believe, so we might as well accept it and find other ways to appreciate it. As I said, I may have a significant other, but I also showed a little extra love to the women in my life on Valentine’s day, (my mother and grandmother) as they want to feel loved and appreciated too. We may say that we don’t like Valentine’s day, but no matter what a woman says, we all wouldn’t mind being shown a little extra love or kindness on the holiday. Next year I would suggest trying to appreciate the holiday and see the goodness that could come out of it rather than the negative. Thank you for sharing!

Like everybody else I agree with the fact that it has all different type of love. Valentine day should not only be for couple but also to show your love for people who you care about. For valentine day, one of my friend bake me a brownie that she share with another of our friend. I think saying that the 14 February is only for love is totally falls. My boyfriend didn’t even get me anything for the 14 but he gives me something during the 15. Because like me he believes that love should not be shows during a special day because everybody do it but should be shows everyday.

      Marine,
That is awesome and so sweet of your friend to have baked you a brownie for the special day. Just one small act of kindness and love can make us smile. I bet it made you feel appreciated and loved by that friend. I also think it is cute that you and your boyfriend decided to celebrate on the 15th as to not put the stress or pressure of the holiday on eachother. Something creative and different. It should always be about the thought, not the gift. I am so happy that you enjoyed the special day and the day after! Thank you for sharing! I loved your stories.

I really enjoyed this post, and the pictures are so cute! I know a lot of people who truly hate Valentine’s Day, and I always try to assure them that it shouldn’t be a day to dread. Some people do not realize how loved they are, just because society gives them the preconcieved idea that you have to have a significant other to enjoy the holiday. That is certainly not the case. Thank you for addressing this topic!! Your positive outlook about Valentine’s Day can inspire others to go out and continue to be kind and to appreciate those they love!!

Aww, thank you so much for your kind words! I always have had a positive outlook on this holiday as I guess that is how I was brought up. I also know many people that are negative toward the holiday and try to reassure them as well that it doesn’t have to be like that. We can’t always change everyone’s mind, but we can always be the example. It is important that no matter how others may look at the holiday, that we are always true to what we preach and lead by our own love. I am glad that you do the same by trying to assure your friends that Valentine’s day can be something wonderful! Thank you and continue being that example of love.

Great Post! This is a great way of explaining Valentines. I also believe that this post would really help the singles out there who hates valentine and think it is overrated. Valentine is not only about the love for your other half, but also the love towards your friends and family. Showing appreciation towards others also strengthen relationships in the long run. Taking things for granted is very dangerous and can really hurt a relationship in the long run. Great Post once again!

Thank you Stephanie. The goal with this post was to try to get everyone to understand that Valentine’s day just isn’t about the cards, flowers, and chocolates, but it is about the love we share and have for those who are important in our lives. Valentine’s day is a day that we should be able to dedicate just a little extra time to those who mean the world to us. Sometimes, throughout the hussle and bussle of everyday life, we forget to show our loved ones that we appreciate and care for them. This day, Valentine’s Day, is a great reason to show those whom may be getting taken for granted, that we absolutely love and care for them and that they haven’t been forgotten.

I appreciate this post because this was the first year where I wasn’t bitter about the day. It turned out to be a great day and treated myself all day. Showing someone their appreciated in anyway shows effort and I think that is an important aspect in all relationships. I’m glad you enjoy the day as well.
SB: you and your dad are twins.

      Marian,
I am so thrilled to hear that you were not bitter about the holiday this year! I know sometimes it can be a difficult day for some, but it is nice to remember that we don’t need to treat the day with such harshness. It is important to show those in our lives that we love them, even if we aren’t with a significant other. As I have written in my post and to our fellow peers, Valentine’s Day can be so much more than what is advertised to us on the television or radio. I hope the rest of your Valentine’s are just as enjoyable as this past one!

PS: You are not the first person to say that my dad and I are twins. LOL I take it as a compliment. Thank you for sharing that, it honestly made my day when I read it! Haha

I really was trying to get people to understand that Valentine’s day is something special no matter who you are or what you do. I hope all those that you shared your extra love with on that day appreciated it as much as I appreciate you being in my life. Thank you for always being a good friend!

I love everything about this post, starting with the history on Valentine’s day haha. You are absolutely in the know, a lot of people dread Valentine’s day and think they are lonely because they don’t have a significant other… but you don’t necessarily need to have a partner to enjoy this day. We are loved, if you have family that’s SOMEONE you have to shower with love, same goes for friends! My brother, and I bought our mother roses and made chocolate covered strawberries! It’s just going an extra step to show appreciation.
